Who was eligible to apply for the Bonus Vista?
The bonus was available only to citizens whose ISEE score fell within the threshold set by the Ministry. Applications were submitted via SPID, CIE or CNS on the dedicated platform. The payment was made only once for each eligible member of the household.
What could you buy with the bonus?
The Sight Bonus scheme allowed the purchase of:
- prescription glasses with prescription lenses;
- sunglasses with prescription lenses;
- corrective contact lenses;
- optical medical devices that comply with the regulations.
How the voucher worked
The voucher had a value set by law and could be used at participating retailers. It was presented at the time of purchase together with a valid identity document, and the subsidy was applied directly to the price of the medical device.
How the refund worked
As an alternative to the voucher, a refund option was available. In this case, the citizen would make the purchase and then upload the following to the platform:
- itemised receipt;
- proof of identity;
- any documentation required by the Ministry.
Required documentation
To claim the bonus, the following were required:
- A valid ISEE certificate;
- SPID, CIE or CNS to access the platform;
- a detailed receipt or invoice in the cases provided for by law;
- any descriptive note regarding the medical device.
Data transmission to the Health Card System
Expenditure relating to optical medical devices was reported to the Health Card System in accordance with the relevant legislation, enabling taxpayers to automatically find the amount included in their pre-filled tax return.
What will change in 2026
In 2026 No renewal is envisaged regarding the Bonus Vista scheme. The Government has not allocated any new funds and the ministerial platform remains closed. The only active scheme is the 19% deduction for healthcare costs, including prescription glasses and contact lenses.
