Ray-Ban Meta Audio, Oakley Meta and Nuance: what is the difference?

They are all glasses, and several have “Audio” in their name, but they meet different needs. Ray-Ban Meta Audio combines listening, calls and voice AI without a camera. Ray-Ban Meta with a camera adds photography and visual features. Nuance Audio is designed for hearing support. Oakley Meta adds a sport-focused choice within the camera-equipped AI glasses family.

Ray-Ban Meta Audio: connected, without filming

A podcast on your commute, a hands-free call or a question for a voice assistant: Meta Audio brings these everyday activities into the frame. Open-ear speakers leave the ear canal uncovered. Keep the volume at a level that allows you to remain aware of your surroundings.

There is no camera: these glasses cannot take photographs, record video or show an object to AI through the glasses. Voice and audio features depend on model, language and country; the Italian manufacturer's specification also lists live translation.

Clubmaster has a retro character, while Burbank offers a rectangular shape. Choosing them means preferring a camera-free design, not simply choosing “less technology”. The range specifies up to 12 hours per charge: a maximum usage figure, not a promise of 12 hours of continuous music.

Ray-Ban Meta with a camera: when what you see matters too

Camera-equipped models let you capture your point of view and use supported visual AI features, alongside audio and calls. Always compare the exact generation: battery life, microphones and software features are not identical. The manufacturer specifies up to 9 hours per charge for Gen 3; this does not apply to every Ray-Ban Meta model.

Explore Ray-Ban Meta at Isolani and check the generation and camera details on the individual product page.

Oakley Meta HSTN and Vanguard: different approaches to sport

Both are AI glasses with a camera, open-ear audio, calls and Meta AI. HSTN takes a sport-inspired lifestyle approach; Vanguard is designed around activities such as running and cycling. Fit, resistance and sports features differ. Neither is a hearing-support device.

See the Oakley Meta range. Garmin and Strava integrations must be checked for the specific model, compatible equipment, market and software.

Nuance Audio: when the aim is to hear conversations better

Nuance Audio is a hearing device integrated into glasses for adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. This is a different purpose from listening to entertainment. Follow the manufacturer's intended use, instructions and warnings.

Nuance Audio Plus also supports telephone calls; this feature must not be attributed to earlier versions. Adding calls does not change its core hearing-support purpose.

The differences at a glance

Compare the family and model, not just the brand
Family Purpose and camera Fitness and apps Prescription lenses
Ray-Ban Meta Audio Audio, calls and voice AI. No camera. Do not assume the dedicated Oakley sports integrations are available. Yes. Subject to frame and prescription limits.
Ray-Ban Meta with camera Audio, photographs, video and supported visual AI. Not equivalent to Vanguard's dedicated Garmin/Strava sports experience. Yes. Subject to frame and prescription limits.
Oakley Meta HSTN Camera-equipped lifestyle AI glasses. Oakley mentions Garmin and Strava. Check the specific supported features; do not assume all Vanguard functions are included. Yes. Subject to compatible prescription and configuration.
Oakley Meta Vanguard Camera-equipped AI glasses designed for sport. Garmin and Strava integrations, training information and metrics on photos/videos in supported configurations. Compatible Garmin equipment sold separately. No. Excluded from the prescription-lens options described here.
Nuance Audio / Plus Hearing support, without a camera. Plus adds calls. A dedicated hearing-device app, not the Oakley sports integrations. Yes. Vision correction alongside hearing support.

For Vanguard, Garmin documents pairing with compatible smartwatches or Edge cycling computers. Training data comes from the compatible device: the glasses do not independently measure heart rate or every sports metric. See Oakley's comparison and Garmin compatibility information.

Open-ear audio is not the same as a hearing aid

“Open-ear” describes sound reproduction with the ear canal uncovered. It does not establish that a product compensates for hearing difficulties. Ray-Ban Meta Audio should therefore not be presented as equivalent to Nuance Audio.

Meta has announced Hearing Enhancement for compatible devices with a US launch. That announcement does not establish availability on Ray-Ban Meta Audio in Italy. Check the exact model and market before basing a purchase on this feature.

Can they be fitted with prescription lenses?

Ray-Ban Meta, Ray-Ban Meta Audio, Oakley Meta HSTN and Nuance Audio can be fitted with prescription lenses in compatible configurations. Oakley Meta Vanguard is excluded. The prescription, frame and available lenses determine the options for an individual order.

Which family should you explore?

Choose the experience first: voice and calls without filming, camera-equipped AI, sport, or hearing support. Then compare fit, lenses and the actual configuration.
