Finding the right frame size is essential when buying glasses online. A frame that is well-proportioned for your face not only ensures comfort, but also enhances your style.
In this guide, we’ll explain how to choose the right size for your sunglasses, in just a few simple steps.
Important note: The standard size is suitable for over 90 per cent of our customers. If you don’t have any specific requirements, you can start there.
HOW TO FIND YOUR SIZE
To find the correct frame size, use a ruler to measure the distance from hinge to hinge on a pair of glasses. Please note the tolerance range of +/- 4 mm.
OTHER MEASUREMENTS
You can also find the perfect fit for your glasses by following these methods:
Check your old frames: On the inside of the temple you will find numbers such as: 52-18-140 (Lens – Bridge – Temple)
Measure your face and check our size charts available on the website
On the inside of the arms of both sunglasses and prescription glasses, you will usually find a series of numbers. These numbers correspond to:
- Lens width (e.g. 51 mm): this indicates the horizontal diameter of the lens at its widest point. In optometry, another term used to refer to this measurement is gauge
- Deck width (e.g. 19 mm): the bridge is the part of the frame that rests on the nose and connects the two lenses. The width of the bridge generally ranges from 14 to 24 millimetres.
- Shaft length (e.g. 144 mm): the temple keeps the glasses firmly in place on your face. Standard temple lengths are usually 135, 140 or 145 millimetres.
CALCULATING THE PERFECT SIZE FOR YOUR FACE
Take a credit card or a business card
The short side is the approximate width of a Standard Size lens (approx. 50/52 mm)
Stand in front of a mirror
Place the end of the shorter side of the credit card in the centre of your nose
Where does the other end go?
- If the edge of your credit card ends at the outer corner of your eye, your size is Standard Size (the calibre closest to 50)
- If it extends well beyond the outer corner of the eye, you should opt for a Small size (calibre smaller than 50)
- If it doesn’t quite reach the end of the eye when using a credit card, then choose a Large size (calibre greater than 50)
