Sun Lenses

Sun Lenses reduce the amount of visible light reaching the eye and must perform in a manner consistent with their intended use. Colour, filter category, light transmission and UV protection are distinct characteristics, which should be checked on the actual product.

Dark does not automatically mean protective

Colour intensity primarily describes how much visible light passes through the lens; protection against UV radiation, on the other hand, depends on the declared and certified performance specifications. For this reason, it is not enough to judge a lens by its appearance alone. At Isolani Optical Centres, we check the origin, markings and technical specifications of the selected lens.

Filter categories from 0 to 4

The categories classify sunglasses according to their visible light transmission: from the very light lenses of category 0 to the very dark ones of category 4. The choice depends on the environment and the activity. Category 4 lenses are designed for conditions of extreme brightness and are not suitable for driving.

Ordinary Sun Lenses are not designed for direct observation of the sun or a solar eclipse: specific devices that comply with the relevant regulations are required for that purpose.

Polarised, photochromic and mirrored

Polarised lenses can reduce annoying glare from surfaces such as water and tarmac, without eliminating it in every situation. The photochromic They alter light absorption depending on the conditions under which they are activated; the mirrored coating alters part of the reflected light and the appearance of the lens. Each technology has specific limitations and areas of application.
