Description

The Levenhuk MED D45T LCD is a trinocular microscope with a 5 MP LCD digital camera. It is designed for visual observations using phase contrast, brightfield or darkfield techniques, as well as with oil immersion and Köhler illumination. Furthermore, with this microscope, you can take photographs and record videos of the entire research process. The microscope is ideal for microbiologists, biochemists, doctors or laboratory technicians.

The advantages of the phase-contrast method

It is worth noting that this optical instrument also enables phase-contrast microscopy. This method enhances the contrast and sharpness of images of transparent and semi-transparent samples to a level that can only be achieved by the standard method when samples are treated with a stain. This is why phase-contrast microscopy is indispensable for studying in vivo samples in their natural state; the staining process would, in fact, cause cell death. This method can be applied to the analysis of drinking water and parasites, as well as to cytological and haematological analyses and other fields of research.

Planachromatic optics with infinity correction

The Levenhuk MED 45 series microscopes are equipped with an infinity-corrected optical system, as used in professional and high-end microscopes. This system comprises plan-achromatic objectives and enables the transmission of clear, high-contrast images with excellent flatness.

One of the most important features of the infinity-corrected optical system is that it allows additional components to be fitted into the optical path between the objective lens and the eyepiece. These additional components include a polariser, epi-fluorescence unit and phase-contrast devices. Overall, the modular design and ease of use make Levenhuk MED 45 microscopes ideal instruments for use across various fields of microscopy, including work in haematology, histology and microbiology laboratories, and many others.

Rotatable trinocular head

The trinocular head is divided into a binocular viewing module and a separate eyepiece tube for mounting the digital camera. The camera is included in the kit and allows you to take photos and record high-definition videos. Images captured by the microscope’s objective lens can be displayed on the camera’s LCD touch screen, as well as on a connected external display or TV screen. No software or drivers need to be installed: the camera will start working immediately after being connected.

Digital camera with LCD touchscreen

The camera displays images on its built-in screen in real time, so there is no need to look through the eyepieces. This makes working in the laboratory easier and more comfortable, whilst also reducing eye strain and stress on the shoulder joint. Furthermore, you can connect an external data storage device, headphones, a computer mouse and other accessories to the camera. The software allows you to adjust the image size, brightness and contrast, exposure time and white balance, calibrate the camera and lenses, and measure samples and structures (various units of measurement are available). Furthermore, the programme enables you to perform particle size analysis. The trinocular head rotates 360° around its own axis and the viewing head has a convenient 30° tilt.

Optical capabilities

The kit includes 10x wide-field eyepieces. You can adjust the dioptre setting to adapt the optical system to your eyesight. Both coarse and fine focus adjustment are available. The rotating objective holder can accommodate five objectives; however, the kit includes only four. These are phase-contrast planachromatic objectives that reduce optical distortion and enhance the colour and contrast of the images. The lenses of the 40x and 100x objectives have spring-loaded mounts. A 100x objective can be used for oil immersion. All optical components are made of special glass with an anti-fungal coating.

Working comfortably with slides

The dual-coordinate stage is fitted with a mechanical translator. Beneath the stage is a phase-contrast condenser (the dark field function is only suitable for ‘dry’ observation methods), and beneath that is a dimmable LED illuminator. The light is powered by an AC power supply.

Warning:

for information on the correct mains voltage, please refer to the specifications table. Never attempt to connect a 110 V device to a 220 V mains socket, or vice versa, without using a voltage converter. Please note that the mains voltage is 220–240 V in most European countries and 110 V in the United States and Canada.
