The Levenhuk MED 45T trinocular microscope is a professional instrument for microscopic studies at magnifications ranging from 40x to 1000x. It uses planachromatic objective lenses for phase contrast, corrected to infinity, and features Köhler illumination. You can examine a specimen using phase contrast in either brightfield or darkfield mode. This microscope is absolutely essential for microbiologists, biochemists and healthcare professionals.
The advantages of the phase-contrast method
It is worth emphasising that this optical instrument also enables phase-contrast microscopy. This method enhances the contrast and sharpness of images of transparent and semi-transparent samples to a level that can only be achieved by the standard method through the use of staining. This is why phase-contrast microscopy is indispensable for the study of in vivo specimens in their natural state; the staining process would, in fact, cause cell death. This method can be applied to the analysis of drinking water and parasites, to cytological and haematological analyses, and to other fields of research.
Planachromatic optics with infinity correction
The Levenhuk MED 45 series microscopes are equipped with an infinity-corrected optical system, as found in professional and high-end microscopes. This system comprises plan-achromatic objectives and enables the transmission of clear, high-contrast images with excellent planarity.
One of the most important features of the infinity-corrected optical system is that it allows additional components to be fitted into the optical path between the objective lens and the eyepiece. These additional components include a polariser, epi-fluorescence unit and phase-contrast devices. Overall, the modular design and ease of use make Levenhuk MED 45 microscopes ideal instruments for use across various fields of microscopy, including work in haematology, histology and microbiology laboratories, and many others.
Rotatable trinocular head
The viewing part of the trinocular head is tilted at 30°, whilst the eyepiece tube for a digital camera is vertical. The camera is not included in the kit. The entire head can be rotated 360° around its own axis.
Optical capabilities
The rotating objective holder can accommodate five objectives; the kit includes four plan-achromatic phase-contrast objectives of various magnifications. The high-magnification objectives have spring-loaded mounts. A 100x objective is provided for oil-immersion observations. The wide-field eyepieces allow for the handling of large specimens and dioptre adjustment to suit the user’s eyesight. The optical system delivers a high-definition, high-contrast image, produces a flat field and reduces chromatic aberration. All accessories are made of optical glass with an anti-fungal coating.
Working comfortably with slides
The stage is fitted with a mechanical translator. The stage can move in two directions. The phase-contrast condenser is intended solely for ‘dry’ observations. The light is located at the bottom. It is a 5 W LED with brightness control. You can adjust the sharpness by turning the coarse and fine focus knobs.
The light is powered by an AC power supply.

Warning:
for information on the correct mains voltage, please refer to the specifications table. Never attempt to connect a 110 V device to a 220 V mains socket, or vice versa, without using a voltage converter. Please note that the mains voltage is 220–240 V in most European countries and 110 V in the United States and Canada.
