An eye in which images coming from infinity do not focus on the retina, as they should, but behind it, is described as hypermetropic.
A person with hyperopia will experience difficulties with both distance and near vision.
Depending on its severity and the person’s age, this ametropia may be latent or manifest.
Latent: in mild cases and in young people, hyperopia is compensated for by the accommodative capacity (adjustment of the lens, which becomes stiffer with age)
Manifest: this occurs in cases of more severe hyperopia and as a person ages, due to the stiffening of the lens and the resulting reduction in the eye’s ability to accommodate.
