The Discovery Channel informs, entertains and inspires its audience around the world about the wonders of our planet, its diversity and its surprises. By offering millions of people the chance to make new discoveries and satisfy their curiosity, Discovery provides an engaging mix of storytelling across a range of genres: science and technology, exploration, adventure, history and a behind-the-scenes look at the people, places and organisations that shape the world we live in.

We are proud to present the Discovery range of optical instruments, manufactured by Levenhuk and sponsored by Discovery.

The Discovery Scope 2 set includes two optical instruments: a microscope and a telescope. The microscope will be a great help in mastering the basics of microbiology. The telescope will prove essential for learning the basics of astronomy. In addition to the optical instruments, the kit includes various practical accessories useful for exploring the world and carrying out scientific experiments. The kit is complemented by the educational book ‘Space: Not an Empty Void’.

Refracting telescope with tabletop tripod

The telescope in the Discovery Scope 2 set is a compact refracting telescope on an AZ mount, fitted with an aluminium table tripod. You can position it next to a window to gaze at the stars directly from your own home. This telescope allows you to observe the Moon, meteor showers and individual stars.

As a basic model, this telescope is useful for getting a sense of the vastness of space. You’ll be able to observe the brightest celestial bodies in the night sky! This telescope can also be used as a powerful spotting scope for observing terrestrial landscapes. The telescope comes with a well-stocked accessory kit, so there’s no need to buy anything separately.

The educational book ‘Space: Empty Yet Not Empty’ will help you learn new things about astronomy. By reading this book, you’ll find answers to various beginner’s questions about how a telescope works, how to carry out observations, and what interesting objects can be seen in the Solar System and beyond. The book is written in clear, evocative language and enriched with vivid illustrations. It is a delightful and useful addition to the Discovery Scope 2 set.

Biological microscope with illumination

The microscope included in the Discovery Scope 2 set is a classic biological microscope with bottom illumination. It is suitable for observing transparent specimens. It can be used without any problems with the sets of prepared slides available in any shop. The microscope is ready to use straight away, as soon as you take it out of the box, as the kit includes numerous prepared slides. This kit also allows you to examine thin sections of samples you have prepared yourself and to observe life in a drop of water. All the tools you might need to prepare samples are already included in the kit.

The available optics offer three fixed magnification settings, ranging from 75x to 900x. The illumination system has a built-in light source with a mirror on one side and an LED on the other. The mirror can be easily used to direct a beam of light from an external source onto the specimen, whilst the LED can be switched on when working in low light. The LED is powered by standard AA batteries.
