The event organised by Istituto Ottico Isolani, dedicated to Focus on Myopia, in collaboration with Hoya and Cooper Vision, has come to a successful and satisfying conclusion.

On Wednesday 25 October at the prestigious Villa Lo Zerbino, in the heart of Genoa, Istituto Ottico Isolani was delighted to host 109 ophthalmologists and orthoptists from Liguria to discuss the topic of managing myopic progression.

Following a pleasant welcome reception, attended by the Chairwoman Laura Isolani and the Managing Directors Enrico Gazzo and Elisabetta Gazzo, the conference was opened by two distinguished ophthalmologists: Dr Massimiliano Serafino – Head of the Ophthalmology Unit at the Gaslini Paediatric Institute, and Professor Aldo Vagge – Head of the Strabology and Paediatric Ophthalmology Service at the Eye Clinic of the San Martino Polyclinic in Genoa. Both emphasised the importance of preventing the progression of myopia through timely intervention in children, particularly in light of forecasts indicating a trend towards an increase by 2050 in 1 in 2 myopic patients by 2050, partly due to the ever-increasing use of portable devices, such as smartphones and tablets, even amongst pre-school children. The ‘simplest’ measure recommended and supported by scientific studies to prevent the onset of myopia is spending at least 2 hours a day outdoors.

Subsequently, Hoya – a world leader in the ophthalmic sector – and Cooper Vision – a leader in the contact lens sector – presented their patented optical solutions for managing myopia progression, using both ophthalmic lenses (for spectacles) and contact lenses.

The in-depth presentation was concluded by the technical staff of Istituto Ottico Isolani, who set out the operational protocol for the management of myopia, used across its 11 opticians’ centres throughout Liguria, based on the direct experience of over 700 customers who have already benefited from these technologies.

The conference was also attended by the companies CentroStyle, VisioniX and SwissFlex, with stands dedicated to instruments and equipment for optometrists.
